Minister of Finance Discussed Investments in Ukrainian Projects with IFC Vice-President Georgina Baker

On April, 16 the Minister of Finance Sergii Marchenko had an online meeting with the Vice-President of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Georgina Baker.

The topic of the conversation was the macroeconomic situation in Ukraine, prospects of cooperation in the fields of public-private partnerships, the expansion of municipal project financing, and the importance of investing in the agricultural sector.

"I thank the International Finance Corporation for its support and financing of projects in Ukraine. I would like to note our joint successes this year and last year in cooperation in the field of public-private partnership. It is one of the top priorities for us. At the same time, such public-private partnership projects should not cost us more than their implementation exclusively at the expense of the budget. Also, it is important to support municipal projects. I count on the expansion of our cooperation and involvement of new cities in the financing program ", - said Sergii Marchenko.

Also, the Minister of Finance of Ukraine said that the opening of the land market creates new opportunities for private investment in the agricultural sector. He emphasized that by 2020 the project "Agrarian Commodity Receipts" with the support of the IFC had been successfully realized. And this market has reached USD 1 billion.

Georgina Baker expressed readiness to involve IFC experience and expertise in Ukraine. Noting successful public-private partnership projects, namely the concession of two seaports "Olvia" and "Kherson" in 2020, the IFC Vice President supports the concession of the seaport "Chernomorsk".

Now we expect the completion of projects and the corresponding decision of the Board of Directors on their financing for Lviv, Zaporizhzhia, and Kryvyi Rih.

Also, in the meeting took part Deputy Minister of Finance Olexandr Kava. He noted that transport infrastructure is extremely important for Ukraine.

"We understand that without a modern infrastructure system it is difficult to achieve economic development. Therefore, attracting investment in road infrastructure, seaports and airports is one of our priorities. One of the most successful examples of such investments was the airport in Kharkiv, where the runway and the terminal were reconstructed. Therefore, we look forward to implementing similar projects for other airports ", - added Olexandr Cava.
