Sergii Marchenko met with the newly appointed Ambassador of Germany to Ukraine Martin Jaeger

On 4 August, Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergii Marchenko met with the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Ukraine Martin Jaeger.

The First Deputy Minister of Finance Denys Uliutin and the Deputy Minister of Finance of Ukraine for European Integration Yuriy Draganchuk also attended the meeting.

Sergii Marchenko congratulated Martin Jaeger on starting his tenure in Ukraine, expressed confidence in further fruitful cooperation, and thanked for Germany's strong support since the first days of Russia's full-scale invasion.

"Financial, military, and humanitarian support is extremely important for countering aggression effectively. And Germany is one of the leaders in supporting our struggle against the terrorist actions of russia," the Minister of Finance of Ukraine said.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the German government has provided financial assistance of USD 1.55 billion. Most of the funding was provided through grants, which is extremely important and allows to reduce the debt burden of Ukraine in the future.

Other discussion topics were the current economic situation, financial challenges during martial law, Ukraine's European integration path, cooperation with the IMF, and the financing needs for the next budget period.

"Thanks to the efficient economic policy of the Government of Ukraine, we have managed to stabilise the situation in the country. We are in much better shape than a year ago. This allows us to prepare the budget for the mid-term period and implement structural reforms in cooperation with the IMF and the European Union," said Sergii Marchenko.

During the meeting, Martin Jaeger assured that Germany would continue to support Ukraine's efforts in the fight against the aggressor.
