Minister of Finance and President of JICA discuss further cooperation projects in the area of recovery

Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergii Marchenko and Deputy Minister of Finance Olga Zykova met with President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Akihiko Tanaka. 

Sergii Marchenko expressed his gratitude for the strong support of the Government of Japan, in particular through the JICA mechanisms and the consolidation of attention to Ukraine's needs in the international arena.

"Ukraine highly appreciates Japan's contribution to accelerating our victory in the war through the systematic provision of financial and humanitarian assistance and sanctions pressure on russia. The funds allocated to the State Budget of Ukraine helped to restore the damaged critical infrastructure, support the social sector, healthcare and education," the Minister of Finance said.

The Government of Ukraine and the Government of Japan are implementing initiatives in the area of recovery through joint projects with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).  On 19 February, within the framework of the Japan-Ukraine Conferencefor Promotion of  Economic Growth and Reconstruction (JUCPEGR), the Government of Ukraine and the JICA signed a number of cooperation agreements to optimise the recovery process.  

In particular, a Technical Cooperation Agreement aimed at engaging the private sector in the recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine. The Government also approved a USD 100 million grant to Ukraine under the Programme for Emergency Recovery (Phase 3). The funds will be used for rapid recovery projects, in particular to overcome the consequences of russia's full-scale armed aggression on transport and critical infrastructure and to provide equipment for humanitarian demining.

In March-April 2023, the Government of Ukraine and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) launched the Programme for Emergency Recovery, which provides for the implementation of 19 projects totalling about USD 573 million.

The Minister of Finance noted that recovery requires the involvement of foreign companies and expressed hope for cooperation with JICA.
