September 5, 2022, Brussels.
Today, on September 5, in Brussels, the Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergii Marchenko and the EU Commissioner for Economy Paolo Gentiloni signed the Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union on the participation of Ukraine in the European Union programme for cooperation in the field of Customs.
"The accession of Ukraine to the program of cooperation with the EU on customs issues will be an important practical element of the Government's European integration policy, and a necessary step for deepening cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the customs field, in particular, in the conditions of our state acquiring the status of a candidate for membership in the European Union", Sergii Marchenko noted in his speech during the 8th plenary session of the Ukraine-EU Association Council.
Ukraine's participation in the Customs programme as an associated country will allow using all the advantages of this Program regarding cooperation between customs administrations:
- development and strengthening of IT potential, in particular, development and operation of European electronic systems;
- professional development and exchange of experience;
- research and innovation activity;
- common communication activities, etc.
In addition, Ukraine is counting on the exchange of knowledge and best practices between the employees of the customs and tax authorities of the participating countries and the possibility of using relevant IT systems for information exchange and access to the databases.
Today, the Ukrainian delegation led by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal took part in the 8th plenary session of the Ukraine-EU Association Council in Brussels.
Minister Sergii Marchenko also welcomed Ukraine's official invitation to join international customs conventions during the speech and signed the Agreement on Ukraine's participation in the EU Customs Programme.
