Denys Shmyhal and Sergii Marchenko met with UK Chancellor of the Exchequer

On April 14, 2023, on the sidelines of the Spring meetings of the IMF and the World Bank, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergii Marchenko met with Chancellor of the Exchequer of the United Kingdom Jeremy Hunt.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister of Finance Olga Zykova.

The parties discussed the current economic situation in Ukraine and the need to finance the state budget deficit for 2023. The Minister of Finance of Ukraine emphasized the need for a rhythmic and predictable inflow of external funding.

Sergii Marchenko thanked the Government of the United Kingdom for its principled position in condemning the invasion of the russian federation into the territory of Ukraine.

“United Kingdom has been one of the leaders in providing financial and military assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the russian federation. I am grateful to the Government of the United Kingdom for its steadfast support, including in matters of sanctions pressure on the russian federation,” said Sergii Marchenko.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed Ukraine's need for immediate recovery, based on the Second Ukraine Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment (RDNA2) report.

Sergii Marchenko emphasized the 5 priorities for rapid recovery in the current year, in particular, the restoration of energy infrastructure, humanitarian demining, restoration of damaged housing, critical and social infrastructure, as well as support of small and medium-sized businesses in Ukraine.

Additional Information

The United Kingdom is one of the largest donors of financial support to Ukraine. Since the beginning of the full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation, more than USD 1.5 billion of financial assistance has been received to the state budget of Ukraine.
