UAH 46.4 billion Spent on Fighting COVID-19 in 2021

According to the preliminary data for the 2021 year, UAH 46.4 billion was spent on the fight against COVID-19.

In particular, funds were spent for the following purposes:

  • payment to healthcare institutions for services provided for inpatient medical care and vaccination of the population under the program of medical guarantees - UAH 22.4 billion. 
  • purchase of COVID-19 vaccines - UAH 11.4 billion.
  • subventions to provide hospitals with oxygen, rapid tests, and consumables for testing - UAH 2.5 billion;
  • additional payments to health care workers - UAH 0.5 billion UAH:
  • payment to institutions of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine for services on hospitalization of patients with COVID-19 - UAH 21.1 million;
  • other activities in the healthcare sphere - UAH 0.1 billion;
  • social support - a total of UAH 7.7 billion: payments for unemployment and partial unemployment - UAH 2.2 billion, activities of social support in quarantine - UAH 3 billion, material support in connection with a temporary disability - UAH 2.5 billion;
  • implementation of measures to fight COVID-19 in educational institutions - UAH 0.9 billion;
  • additional payments to the salaries of the National Guard and State Border Guard, civil protection bodies and units, police officers, medical and other employees of departmental healthcare institutions - UAH 0.8 billion.

"Last year, the Ministry of Finance found ways to finance all measures to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. For example, last year funds were allocated for the proper provision of hospitals with oxygen, medical care for COVID-19 patients. Today, we have enough different types of vaccines to meet current vaccination needs, including "booster" doses. After all, vaccination prevents a severe course of this disease, which also reduces the burden on the healthcare system as a whole and allows it to better meet the various medical needs of citizens", commented Deputy Minister of Finance Roman Yermolychev.
