Oleksandr Kava: Implementation of the First Railway Electrification Project with EBRD Loan Funds will Start in 2021

The team of the Ministry of Finance jointly with the EBRD representatives revised the portfolio of projects that are already being implemented in Ukraine and those that are currently being prepared.

One of the projects is the electrification of the Dolynska-Mykolaiv-Kolosivka railway line. EUR 150 million loan agreement with the EBRD for this project was ratified in December last year. (The project is co-financed by the EIB for another EUR 150 million).

"Currently, а tender procedure is underway and next year the electrification of Dolynska – Mykolaiv railroad with a length of 148 km will begin. The implementation of this project will increase the capacity of the railway in the direction of the Mykolaiv port cluster, which is one of the largest in Ukraine and handles more than 25 million tons of cargo annually. Electrification of this section will also allow launching the use of high-speed electric trains Intercity+ on the route Kyiv - Mykolaiv, with the duration of a trip about 5 hours. I would like to note that the implementation of this project will also significantly improve the environmental situation in Mykolaiv, as the transition from diesel to electric trains will significantly reduce the level of emissions of harmful substances in the atmosphere," - Deputy Minister of Finance Oleksandr Kava noted.

By the end of this year, Ukrzaliznytsia should decide whether to conduct the Kolosivka-Mykolaiv railroad electrification with a length of 148 km, which can also be financed by the EIB and the EBRD.
