Sergii Marchenko: Ukraine has already received over USD 22 billion from the World Bank and donor countries through the Bank's mechanisms

During the working visit to Washington, D.C., Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergii Marchenko met with the management of the World Bank.

In particular, with World Bank's Managing Director of Operations Anna Bjerde, Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Antonella Bassani.

The meeting was also attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United States Oksana Markarova.

The parties discussed cooperation in mobilizing resources for budget needs and rapid recovery.

"I am sincerely grateful to the World Bank Group for its significant financial assistance to Ukraine since the first days of russia's full-scale military aggression. Since February 24, 2022, the World Bank has mobilized financial resources in the amount of USD 34 billion to support Ukraine. More than USD 22 billion of this amount has already been disbursed to Ukraine. The financial assistance received from the World Bank and the established trust funds plays a significant role in ensuring priority social expenditures and maintaining the balance of the State Budget," said Sergii Marchenko.

The Minister of Finance also thanked for the recent signing of an agreement on an additional USD 1.76 billion which Ukraine will receive from the United States, the United Kingdom and Finland under the World Bank's PEACE in Ukraine project.

The parties discussed the implementation of new joint projects that will be implemented in the process of rebuilding Ukraine, in particular for the reconstruction of the transport infrastructure "RELINK", the electricity sector "Re-Power", and support for the healthcare system "Heal Ukraine". In addition, the Ukrainian side, together with colleagues from the World Bank, is currently working on project proposals to initiate two more new projects.

"It is important for Ukraine to start recovery now. The safety of our citizens and the economic recovery of the country depend on it. Undoubtedly, the World Bank is a strategically important partner of Ukraine in this process and we are ready to deepen our cooperation to implement the priority plans set out in the RDNA2 joint report," the Minister of Finance said. 

At the same time, Sergii Marchenko emphasized the readiness of the Government of Ukraine and the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine to ensure the efficiency and transparency of the use of external financing.
