State Debt in February 2021

As of the end of February 2021, the total state and state-guaranteed debt of Ukraine in national currency equivalent amounted to UAH 2,552.96 billion (USD 91.41 billion in foreign currency equivalent). Compared to the previous month, the state and state-guaranteed debt of Ukraine decreased in hryvnia equivalent by UAH 5.28 billion, mainly due to the reduction of the state-guaranteed debt by UAH 5.23 billion. During February, the hryvnia's exchange rate against the US dollar strengthened slightly, leading to a decrease in the state's external debt in hryvnia equivalent by UAH 11.20 billion, while Ukraine's domestic debt increased by almost the equivalent amount of UAH 11.15 billion. In dollar terms, public debt increased by USD 0.75 billion.

The share of state debt in hryvnia as of the end of February 2021 increased to 39.5% (+ 0.6% compared to the previous month).

In February 2021, the Ministry of Finance held 4 auctions for the placement of domestic government bonds, attracting UAH 38.4 billion to the state budget.

Non-residents increased their local state bonds portfolio by 7.7% or UAH 7.3 billion in February 2021. The total share of non-residents among domestic government bonds holders at the end of February was 10.3% or UAH 102.7 billion.

In February 2021, the expenditures on state debt repayments amounted to UAH 27.8 billion, while state debt service payments were UAH 8.1 billion.

As of the end of the year 2020, the State debt to GDP ratio was 53.9%, and the ratio of State-Guaranteed debt to GDP was 7.0%. The State and State-Guaranteed debt to GDP at the end of 2020 was 60.9%.
