Joint Expert Discussions of IMF Staff Team and Ukraine Authorities in Vienna Have Finished

From October 17 to 20, an IMF Mission took place in Vienna, Austria, with the European department staff of the IMF, representatives of the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, and the National Bank of Ukraine.

Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergii Marchenko and Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine Andriy Pyshnyy took part in the final meeting.

During the meetings, the discussions were focused on the macro-financial situation in Ukraine, the indicators of the draft State Budget for 2023, and the need for external financing to cover the budget deficit.

The experts of the Fund noted that the Ukrainian authorities deserve considerable credit for having maintained an important degree of macro-financial stability in these extremely difficult circumstances.

“Cooperation with the IMF and other international partners is one of the key priorities of the Government of Ukraine in the conditions of a full-scale war”, said Sergii Marchenko.

The productive discussions during the IMF Mission will continue regarding the Program Monitoring with Board Involvement (PMB) for Ukraine in the coming weeks. The program will outline the policy intentions of the Government of Ukraine and National Bank of Ukraine, aimed at macroeconomic and financial stability, and will present Ukraine's needs in external financing for 2023. РМВ will help Ukraine attract additional funding from donors and pave the way toward a fully-fledged Fund program.
