Ukraine will receive USD 135 million from the World Bank

Ukraine will receive USD 135 million from the World Bank. The relevant decision was made today, on April 28, 2020 by the Board of Directors of the Bank.
It is assumed that within the ongoing Serving People, Improving Health Project USD 35 million of that amount will be spent on measures to strengthen social protection and counteract the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The rest of the funds will be allocated to purchase state-of-the-art equipment for emergency departments and to strengthen hospitals’ ability to provide quality stroke care in the Ukrainian regions.
«This additional financing will help Ukraine upgrade up to 40 hospital emergency departments and stroke units, enabling hospitals to perform complicated medical procedures using hi-tech equipment and appropriate treatment protocols», - said Alex Kremer, World Bank Acting Country Director for Belarus, Moldova, and Ukraine.
