Ukraine will receive USD 1.5 billion in guarantees from Japan through the World Bank's Trust Fund

Today, on July 20, Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergii Marchenko and World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Antonella Bassani signed the Agreement on providing Ukraine with a USD 1.5 billion loan.

The concessional loan funds are provided under the guarantee of the Government of Japan through the mechanism of the WB Trust Fund.

“I am grateful to the Government of Japan and the World Bank team for their strong support to Ukraine. These funds will strengthen the social protection of the population, contribute to the provision of assistance to people during the war, as well as to the recovery of the economy,” said Sergii Marchenko during the signing of the Agreement.

Since February 24, 2022, Ukraine has already received USD 581 million in concessional financing from the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the russian federation, the World Bank has mobilized financial resources from our partners in the amount of USD 34 billion. More than USD 22 billion of this support has already been transferred to the State Budget of Ukraine. The funds are directed to the maintenance of macro-financial stability in Ukraine and financing of priority State Budget expenditures.
