Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergii Marchenko met with the U.S. Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo

During a working visit to the United States, Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergii Marchenko met with U.S. Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo. The meeting was held in Washington, DC at the U.S. Treasury Department.

The parties discussed reforms in Ukraine, cooperation with international financial organizations, amendments to the Tax Code of Ukraine, the possibility of long-term state financing from the USA, and the necessity of acceleration of Ukraine joining NATO.

The representatives started their communication with a discussion of the current state of the Ukrainian economy.

"The economic situation in Ukraine right now is quite favorable. Last year, and for the first half of 2021, we managed to achieve overperformance of state budget revenues. The situation with COVID-19 is stable, the rate of vaccination of the population is constantly accelerating, and this is a positive factor for the further recovery and growth of the economy," Sergii Marchenko told U.S. partners.

"I am pleased to welcome you to Washington, Mr. Minister. We are closely watching Ukraine, which is an important partner for the Biden Administration, and we look forward to meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky", assured Wally Adeyemo.

The U.S. Deputy Secretary of the Treasury assured the Ukrainian delegation of the U.S. support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine. He stressed that the U.S. will continue to be a reliable partner of Ukraine in the production of reforms. It will help to attract more investment and allow Ukraine's economy to remain competitive and sustainable.

Discussing the changes in the tax legislation, Wally Adeyemo noted that in the USA, it is also difficult to introduce changes to prevent tax evasion similar to the ones that are now accepted in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian delegation also included the Government Commissioner for Public Debt Management Yuriy Butsa and Deputy Minister of Finance for European Integration Yuriy Draganchuk.
