Sergii Marchenko met with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen

 

Today, within the framework of the Annual Meeting of the IMF and the World Bank, Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergii Marchenko met with the Treasury Secretary of the United States of America Janet Yellen.

Deputy Minister of Finance Olga Zykova, Government Commissioner for Public Debt Management Yuriy Butsa, Deputy Minister of Finance for European Integration Yuriy Draganchuk also took part in the meeting, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the USA Oksana Markarova.

The topics of  discussion were existing instruments of financial support for Ukraine, Ukraine's need for additional financing, strengthening of sanctions against russia, and capping russian oil prices.

The Minister of Finance of Ukraine thanked Janet Yellen for the support on the financial battlefront. The United States of America is the largest donor to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of russia, grant aid to Ukraine from the United States has reached USD 8.5 billion. The funds were directed to the State Budget of Ukraine to stabilize the economy and ensure protected expenses in wartime: payment of wages, pensions, social benefits.

"We continue to work fully, ensuring all priority expenditures of the state budget, also, due to the exceptional support of partners from the USA. We are especially grateful for the provision of funds in the form of grants, which allows us not to increase the debt burden", said Sergii Marchenko.

Sergii Marchenko noted that Ukraine has already received about USD 19.4 billion in financial support from foreign partners since February 24, 2022. Also, by the end of this year, Ukraine expects to recieve EUR 5 billion from the EU, USD 4.5 billion from the United States and USD 1.3 billion from the IMF. The Minister of Finance of Ukraine added that Ukraine will need to continue attracting external concessional financing and grants to cover priority expenditures of the State Budget and for rapid recovery next year.

Janet Yellen noted that the USA will continue to strongly support Ukraine and Ukrainian citizens.
