Ukraine and the EIB are preparing to sign new support projects: Minister of Finance met with the President of the European Investment Bank

Today, on July 22, Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergii Marchenko met online with President of the European Investment Bank (EIB) Nadia Calviño and Head of the EIB Resident Representation in Ukraine Jean-Erik De Zagon.

The parties discussed the implementation of cooperation programs and new support projects. The Government of Ukraine and the EIB are cooperating to prepare new financial agreements.

"The European Investment Bank systematically supports Ukraine in priority areas. And we continue to work on expanding our partnership. In total, the EIB's initiatives in the public sector amount to 26 projects worth EUR 5.3 billion," said Sergii Marchenko.

The portfolio of joint projects in the public and private sector is the largest in all the years of cooperation and reaches more than EUR 7 billion. Since the start of the full-scale war, EIB investments in all areas have amounted to about EUR 2 billion.

The Bank's financial support is aimed at meeting the priority needs of the country, including the recovery of critical infrastructure and the restoration of the energy system.

The Minister of Finance emphasized the urgent need to support Ukraine's energy sector, as well as the development of new projects to restore and develop the electricity sector in Ukraine. The Bank is expected to approve a EUR 250 million support package for Ukraine's energy sector in the near future.

Regarding current initiatives, the parties noted the EIB's financing of small and medium-sized enterprise projects with three Ukrainian banks, as well as preparations for the signing of the Financial Agreement between Ukraine and the EIB on the project Ukraine digital emergency response service. In addition, they discussed a number of potential joint projects, including those aimed at providing housing for Ukrainian citizens.

The parties agreed to continue working on the effective implementation of current and potential projects and attracting new investments in Ukraine.

As a reminder, in 2024, Ukraine and the EIB signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the public and private sectors of the Ukrainian economy. The Memorandum defines the priority areas of cooperation for the next 10 years.
