Government Allocated Additional UAH 6.5 Billion for Vaccination of the Adult Population

On April 14, 2021, the Government adopted a resolution on additional allocation of funds from the State Budget of UAH 6.5 billion for the vaccines against acute respiratory disease COVID-19. This decision was agreed upon by the Parliament's Committee on Budget on the same day.

Taking into account respective expenditures for 2020 the total amount of state budget expenditures for vaccines against acute respiratory disease COVID-19 amounts to UAH 11.4 billion.

The Government has taken all measures to provide the Ministry of Health of Ukraine with funds for vaccines procurement and immunization of 70% of the adult population by the end of 2021, determined from the total population of 41.7 million people according to the State Statistics Committee as of January 1, 2020. The plan is to cover 24 million adults with vaccinations.

It requires almost 48 million doses of vaccines, taking into account 8 million doses to be received free of charge under the mechanism of COVAX.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health faces a big challenge: to ensure timely procurement and supply of appropriate amounts of vaccines to Ukraine and organize the vaccination to achieve the declared targets. It takes almost 6 million monthly vaccinations from May to the end of 2021 (on average, more than 250 thousand vaccinations a day) to cover with two doses of vaccinations by the end of the year 70% of the adult population.
