Denys Shmyhal and Sergii Marchenko met with Minister of Finance of Germany

On April 14, 2023, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergii Marchenko met with Minister of Finance of Germany Christian Lindner during a working visit to Washington, USA.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the economic situation in Ukraine, the deficit of the state budget in the current year, as well as the need for financing rapid recovery.

“We are grateful to the Government of Germany for the multilateral support of Ukraine during the war. In particular, EUR 1.5 billion was raised from the German Government since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Currently, we are focused on maintaining an appropriate macro-financial level and ensuring priority expenditures of the state budget. In addition, one of the most important issues is attracting funding for the rapid recovery of Ukraine,” said Sergii Marchenko.

The representatives of Ukraine and Germany also discussed the need for rapid recovery and further reconstruction, as well as increasing sanctions pressure on russia. The Minister of Finance of Ukraine emphasized the five top priorities in recovery, related to energy infrastructure, humanitarian demining, restoration of damaged housing, critical and social infrastructure, as well as support of small and medium-sized businesses in Ukraine.
