Ukraine Received EUR 600 million of Macro-financial Assistance from the EU

Today, October 25, Ukraine received from the European Union the 2nd tranche of the 5th EU macro-financial assistance program with the nominal value of EUR 600 million.

It was granted as a long-term loan at 0.250% interest rate due April 2036.

"We are grateful to our partners from the European Union for the long-term steadfast support of our country on its path toward economic development and implementation of key reforms. The Ukrainian side has met the conditions of the macro-financial assistance program agreed by the parties, which allowed for attracting this loan. We continue an active work to ensure macro-financial stability and implementation of structural reforms in Ukraine", - said Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergii Marchenko.

The main condition to receive the 2nd tranche was the implementation of structural reforms in strengthening public finance management system, governance and rule of law, improving the business climate, and governance of state-owned enterprises.

The received funds will be used  to finance the budget needs and reduce the financial burden on the budget of Ukraine.

The total amount of the EU credit received by Ukraine under the five macro-financial assistance programs during 2014 - 2021 reached EUR 5.01 billion.

Additional information

In July 2020, Ukraine and the EU signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the implementation of the fifth program of macro-financial assistance up to EUR 1.2 billion. In December 2020, Ukraine received from the EU the 1st tranche with a nominal value of EUR 600 million.
